The beard

Question

A certain person says: if you grow a beard, there is no harm, and if you do not grow it, no harm occurs either; and growing a beard is a sunna.

Answer

That person is wrong. Growing the beard is wajib and shaving it is haram; cutting it before it reaches one fistful (qabda) is impermissible by consensus. In the noble hadith the Messenger of Allah ﷺ clearly commanded growing the beard and letting it grow long.
