Which is better: trousers or the waist-cloth

Question

Question: Is it better to wear trousers or a waist-cloth? If trousers, then of what kind? And if a waist-cloth, then of what kind — stitched or unstitched? What is established from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prefer the waist-cloth or trousers? If the waist-cloth, then stitched or unstitched?

Answer

That he ﷺ bought trousers (sirwal) and approved of them is established, and in one narration it is also related that he wore them; their form is not known. Most of the time he used the waist-cloth; whether it was stitched or unstitched is not known — the estimate is that it was unstitched.
