Accepting the invitation of a bangle-seller and a butcher
Question
Question: A scholar said in his sermon: “I do not accept the invitations of sellers of glass bangles and butchers, because the former, while putting bangles on, looks at the hands of non-mahram women, and the butcher lies at every word.” Is it permissible to eat at the homes of these people or not?
Answer
Casting an improper glance at a non-mahram woman, or touching her hand while putting bangles on, is not right; it is prohibited. But because of this the price of the bangles does not become haram, so calling his food haram is not right. Lying — and that at every word — is a grave sin; despite this, the price of the meat is not haram.
