Ghee from the house of a Bhangi or a Chamar
Question
Question: What is the ruling on eating ghee (clarified butter) and any pickle from the homes of Hindus, Chamars (of an Indian caste of leatherworkers, regarded as low), Bhangis (of the sweepers’ caste) and the like?
Answer
If there is certainty or a predominant assumption of impurity in it, then eating it is absolutely impermissible. If it is known that there is no impurity in it, then taking and eating it is permissible. And if nothing is known, then, since these people are mostly in a state of impurity, such things should not be taken from them.
