Fatima’s Displeasure with Abu Bakr
Question
In Sahih al-Bukhari, in the “chapter on the merit of Fatima” (باب فضيلة فاطمة), it is stated that Hazrat Fatima ﵂ rejected the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr ﵁; as long as she lived she did not speak to them, [saying:] “These people have caused me great pain.” Near her death Hazrat Sayyida ﵂ said: “Let these people not come to my funeral,” and so Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ buried Hazrat Fatima ﵂ in the darkness of night in Jannat al-Baqi‘. What is your opinion about this hadith?
Answer
There is nothing of the sort in Sahih al-Bukhari. Whoever said this has fabricated a slander; otherwise let him produce the actual wording of Sahih al-Bukhari.
