Fasting in Rajab and the Kunde

Question

In the month of Rajab the kunde (a ritual food offering in earthen bowls on 22 Rajab) of Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq ﵁ is held; does this too have any basis in the Sacred Law or not? Also, people fast on the 7th, 13th and 27th of Rajab and regard it as greatly rewarding; is this established by a noble hadith or not? And what is the merit of the month of Rajab according to the Sacred Law? Kindly write briefly, in a few words.

Answer

Concerning the merit of fasting on the dates mentioned in the month of Rajab, some narrations have been transmitted, but in the view of the hadith scholars these narrations do not reach the degree of authenticity; Shaykh ‘Abd al-Haqq Muhaddith Dihlawi ﵀ has mentioned them in “Ma Thabata bi-l-Sunna” (ما ثبت بالسنة): some of them are very weak and some are fabricated (mawdu‘).
