Sirat Conference Gatherings

Question

In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, sirat conferences and sessions under the title “Sirat al-Nabi” are held. Deobandi gentlemen also convene such sessions, but with this difference from the Barelvis that the latter also have qiyam and mawlid, whereas the Deobandis merely invite their ulama and listen to speeches, benefiting from the pure sira and the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ in the light of the Qur’an and Hadith; and our ulama, shaykhs and teachers of Deoband, Saharanpur and elsewhere take part in them.

Answer

To relate the pure sira and to convey it to people, whereby life is shaped in accordance with the sunna and the desire to adhere to the religion is generated, is correct, rewarding and beneficial — provided there is in it no making binding what is not binding (iltizam ma la yalzam) and nothing contrary to the Sacred Law: for instance, [restriction to] a time (month, date, day)
