Illumination on the Birthday of the Prophet ﷺ
Question
Those people who, on the twelfth of Rabi‘ al-Awwal, the birthday of the Noble Prophet ﷺ, light up (illuminate) the mosques and houses and distribute sweets — is this correct according to the Sacred Law or not?
Answer
This practice is not established from the Holy Qur’an, the noble hadiths, the senior noble Companions ﵃ or the mujtahid Imams ﵏; it should be abstained from entirely. On the day of his birth the Noble Prophet ﷺ kept a fast.
