Staying Awake All Night in Worship on the Night of the Prophet’s ﷺ Birth

Question

In some areas, on the birthday of the Noble Prophet ﷺ and on the night of the Mi‘raj (the Night of Ascension), people spend the whole night in the mosques and remain awake all night in worship and du‘a — to the extent that even those who never turn towards the mosques become perfect worshippers on these days. The question is: is there any proof from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith for worshipping the whole night on these nights or not? And what is the ruling on this special worship?

Answer

Staying awake all night and worshipping in a special manner on the day of the birth, the night of the birth or the night of the Mi‘raj is not established from the Noble Prophet ﷺ, the noble Companions ﵃ or the mujtahid Imams. Even on those nights on which staying awake in worship is established — such as the night of mid-Sha‘ban (Laylat al-Bara’a)
