Lecture and Gathering on 27 Rajab and 12 Rabi‘ al-Awwal

Question

(1) On the night of Mi‘raj (the night of 27 Rajab), after the ‘Isha prayer a lecture is held in which the account of the blessed Mi‘raj is expounded. Is this correct — is it not a bid‘a (innovation in religion)? (2) On 12 Rabi‘ al-Awwal too, after the ‘Isha prayer, a lecture is held; a khatm (complete recitation) of the Holy Qur’an is performed and its reward is conveyed (isal al-thawab)

Answer

(1) In this night there is no specific act established by the Sunna; as is the state of other nights, so is its state. Nothing should be invented on one’s own. (2) To narrate the blessed events of the life of the Noble Prophet ﷺ and to listen to them is pure felicity and a demand of faith; but to restrict this to this particular night is a grave shortcoming.
