The Efficacy of Khatm-e Khwajagan
Question
I submit that three years ago, in [19]63, on the festival of Ganpati (a Hindu festival in honour of the god Ganesha), a riot broke out in the city of Malegaon, in which the Muslims had to suffer considerable losses; besides this, it was the Muslims who were harassed and terrorized in all manner of ways. Affected by this helplessness, some people began, after the Maghrib prayer in the mosque, a collective round of recitation of the Noble Verse (the words “La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu min al-zalimin”)
Answer
In Khatm-e Khwajagan there is nothing contrary to the Sacred Law, as is mentioned in “Diya’ al-Qulub”: whatever is recited in it is certainly blessed and rewarding; thus, reciting the Mu‘awwidhatayn and the like before sleeping, blowing [on the palms] and passing the hands over the body is established from the hadiths.
