Does the Food of Niyaz-Fatiha Reach the Deceased?
Question
What are the conditions of niyaz-fatiha (a votive offering of food over which the fatiha is recited)? Do sweets or a whole roast chicken over which fatiha has been recited reach the deceased?
Answer
To perform any good deed — without any such restriction for which there is no basis in the Sacred Law — and convey its reward is correct. The reward obtained from charity (sadaqa) given in the manner prescribed by the Sacred Law reaches the deceased.
