The Prophet ﷺ Is Both Bashar and Nur
Question
In the Holy Qur’an both the word “bashar” (human) and the word “nur” (light) have been used for the Prophet ﷺ: [ar]قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ[/ar] “Say: I am only a human being like you” (Surah al-Kahf, 18:110); [ar]قَدْ جَآءَكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ نُورٌ وَكِتَـٰبٌ مُّبِينٌ[/ar] “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book” (Surah al-Ma’ida, 5:15). What is the meaning of these two verses? Please write clearly.
Answer
When Allah the Exalted declared the Prophet ﷺ to be a bashar (human) and commanded the proclamation of his human nature, then not to accept him as a bashar is to set oneself against God the Almighty Subduer (al-Qahhar).
