Circumambulating Graves

Question

Further: circumambulating (tawaf) graves and kissing them — in such a way that others get the impression that the person is prostrating, though in his heart he does not intend it as such — what is this act? And what of placing one’s hand on the grave and then on one’s own chest, and likewise placing one’s hand on the threshold and then on one’s forehead?

Answer

This is haram and is a form of shirk; repentance from it is obligatory (fard) (“Fatawa ‘Azizi”).
