Verses About the Shaykh as Wasila and “‘Ali the Solver of Difficulties”
Question
In a mawlid gathering on the night of mid-Sha‘ban a person recited the verses given below. A dispute arose among those present over it — that reciting such verses is altogether wrong, and so on. So is it correct to recite such verses in a mawlid gathering and elsewhere, or not? [ar]خدا تک میں رسائی چاہتا ہوں ٭ وسیلہ ہے وہ شیخ اعظم[/ar] “I wish to reach God ٭ my wasila is that Shaykh A‘zam.
Answer
Through the training and the mediation (tawassul) of a perfect, verifying shaykh a sincere seeker attains a spiritual connection with Allah, the Pure — this is what reaching God means; and the court of the Intercessor of Creation ﷺ can likewise be reached by virtue of following the shaykh. Hence there is no difficulty in these two couplets.
