The Phrase “Victor over Every Victor” About Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁
Question
What is to be said of this expression: [ar]وَعَلَى الْغَالِبِ عَلَى كُلِّ غَالِبٍ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ[/ar] “…and upon the Victor over every victor, the Commander of the Faithful, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib”?
Answer
Although it is possible, by way of interpretation (ta’wil), to construe an acceptable meaning for this expression, yet with regard to the apparent wording there is in it a resemblance to a misguided and false sect, and that sect’s corrupt belief is supported by it; therefore abstaining from it is necessary.
