The Belief That Allah Cannot Release a Sinner but the Prophet ﷺ Can

Question

The Barelvis hold the belief that on the Day of Resurrection, whomever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seizes to punish for a sin, no one can release, whereas whomever God seizes to punish, Muhammad ﷺ can release. Is this correct or wrong?

Answer

The proof of this from the Qur’an and hadith should be asked of those very gentlemen who hold this belief. I have not read any such thing in any verse or any hadith, nor in the books of the science of creed.
