Beliefs and Practices of Kufr Among Relatives

Question

Our relatives — specifically my father-in-law and mother-in-law — observe the customs of the kafirs and mushriks and celebrate their festivals. Dooj (a Hindu festival honouring the brother–sister bond), Teej (a Hindu women’s festival of the monsoon season), Aatham (a Hindu festival on the eighth day of the lunar month), Navami (a Hindu festival marking Rama’s birth), Holi (the Hindu spring festival of colours), Diwali (the Hindu festival of lights)

Answer

Such people should first be gently made to understand that these beliefs are contrary to Islam, that with such beliefs a person does not remain a Muslim but becomes a mushrik and a kafir. By whatever means possible, one should impress upon their hearts the evil and corruption of these beliefs, and, by teaching them the correct beliefs, make them Muslims.
