The Belief That Allah Indwells in Every Thing

Question

My belief is this: Allah the Exalted is above the Throne (‘Arsh); His knowledge is everywhere; He is present and watching (hadir wa nazir), All-Hearing, All-Seeing (سميع بصير), powerful over all things (على كل شيء قدير), and: [ar]وَٱللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرِهِۦ[/ar] “And Allah is predominant over His affair” (Surah Yusuf, 12:21). Those who deny this matter should produce a proof; otherwise they are liars who lead people against Islam and cast them into a bad belief. Why, then, do they corrupt and ruin people?

Answer

To hold, concerning the Gracious Lord, the belief that He has indwelt (hulul) in every thing is kufr. Likewise, to hold the belief that He is upon the Throne or in some other place in the way that the king is in London is kufr. Repentance from both these beliefs and abstention from them are obligatory (wajib).
