The Definition of a Fasiq and a Zindiq
Question
Who is called a fasiq, and who is called a zindiq?
Answer
A fasiq (transgressor) is one who commits a major sin (kabira). A zindiq is one who does deeds of kufr and then, when he is taken to task for it, either resorts to ta’wil (reinterpretation) or repents, yet afterwards keeps on doing the same — because there is kufr in his heart.
