The Names of Allah in Other Languages

Question

In the pamphlet “Shahna-yi Shari‘at” (“The Guardian of the Shari‘a”) it is stated that it is obligatory to remember Allah only by those names that are given in the Qur’an, such as Rahman, Sattar, Ghaffar and so on, and that Allah the Pure should not be named with names which are not given in it, whether their meaning be good or bad — such as God (English), Izad (a Persian word for God), Yazdan (a Persian name for God), Ram (a Hindu name for God), Ishwar (a Hindu name for God)

Answer

If the intent is that permissibility depends solely on those names that occur in the Noble Qur’an, then great difficulty will arise, because perhaps not even all the Beautiful Names (al-asma’ al-husna) are found in the Noble Qur’an. Moreover, the earlier scriptures — the Tawrat, the Injil, the Zabur, the Scrolls of Ibrahim and Musa ﵉ — are they all in Arabic?
