Reducing the price of a sold item as zakat

Question

A person who is an owner of the nisab (sahib al-nisab) sold a poor man some item whose price was three rupees. The poor man, for the sake of Allah, on account of his poverty, asked for some reduction; this person, for the sake of Allah, let go of one rupee and took only two rupees. Can that owner of the nisab now count this one rupee as zakat or not?

Answer

Counting it as zakat in this way is not permissible. Rather, he should divide that item into two portions: sell one portion for two rupees, and give the other portion, whose value is one rupee, as zakat without taking any price. Or he should sell that thing for three rupees and collect the three rupees, and after that give one rupee as zakat.
