A gift given in response to zakat
Question
Giving zakat to relatives is more virtuous. But if they give something in return for it — either secretly or openly — what is the ruling on that?
Answer
Taking compensation in exchange for zakat is not permissible. However, if the relative is eligible to receive zakat and he is given zakat, and afterwards he gives a gift to the one who paid the zakat, then it is permissible to accept it.
