Giving zakat money to a maternal uncle, a brother-in-law and their children
Question
May zakat and the price of the hides of sacrificial animals be given to the maternal grandmother, the maternal uncle, the brother-in-law (the wife’s brother), or also to the children of these three, if they make ends meet only with difficulty? Kindly set out the rulings of the Shari‘a together with the proofs in simple Urdu.
Answer
To the maternal grandmother it is not permissible; to the maternal uncle and the brother-in-law it is permissible, and to the children of both of them it is also permissible. Among the maternal grandmother’s children, to one’s mother it is not permissible; to the maternal aunt, the maternal uncle and their children it is permissible.
