An Agent for Paying Zakat Giving It to His Own Mother

Question

Hinda has jewellery to the extent of the nisab. She said to her husband: “You pay the zakat on my jewellery, and give it wherever you wish.” Hinda’s husband agreed. Hinda’s husband, having taken the zakat on his wife Hinda’s jewellery, gave the rupees to his mother, who is entitled to zakat. Kindly tell us now: will the zakat be discharged or not?

Answer

In such a case the zakat has been discharged.
