Zakat on jewellery set with stones

Question

If precious stones, i.e. turquoise, yaqut (ruby) and the like, are set in jewellery, according to what principle should their zakat be paid? And is zakat wajib on them?

Answer

Zakat is not wajib on such stones. Taking their weight into account, the zakat on the gold and silver jewellery should be paid.
