Zakat on pawned jewellery

Question

Someone holds some gold jewellery in pledge (rahn), and even more time than the fixed term has passed. In this case, who will give the zakat?

Answer

Zakat on it is wajib neither on the pledger (rahin) nor on the pledgee (murtahin). When it is returned, even then zakat on the pledged property (for the past period) will not become binding (lazim) on the owner.
