Taking Service from a Minor Pupil

Question

May a teacher who is also the prayer leader (imam) purify himself by having one of his minor pupils fetch water for wudu — as he does every day — and lead the prayer with that wudu? Is this permissible? (2) Many people who are craftsmen may have their little minor apprentices fetch water and drink it. They themselves rest, while the poor apprentices keep fanning them. Is this practice of theirs correct?

Answer

(1) Having them fetch water for their upbringing and to teach them proper manners, performing wudu with that water, and praying and leading the prayer with that wudu — all of this is permissible. The Prophet ﷺ would from time to time take work from Hazrat Anas ﵁, and he was a minor at that time.
