A wife intended to give her bracelets to a madrasa but passed away: what should the husband do?
Question
Zayd’s wife passed away. She wanted to give her bracelets to the madrasa in Chalnami (?). May that silver and so on be given to a madrasa in which the Holy Qur’an and Urdu are taught, but which has no children from outside residing and eating there, or not? And what about giving it to the mosque?
Answer
This is neither zakat nor obligatory (wajib) sadaqa; giving it to the madrasa or the mosque is permissible. Spending it on construction and salaries is also correct. However, it is necessary to take care that no minor has a share in it, and that any adult who has a share also willingly gives permission for it to be given to the mosque or madrasa.
