Donating to a high school

Question

In my area Hindus and Muslims together are opening a high school, to which both are donating, and they are asking me too to give five hundred rupees. Will I receive reward (thawab) for this or not?

Answer

Since one’s own children too will study in it, there will certainly be some reward, although the reward for purely religious education of one’s children is far greater than this. But care must be taken that irreligion is not taught there, by which beliefs and morals are ruined; otherwise it will be a grave calamity.
