Serving the Madrasa without Salary and Residing in the Madrasa Building

Question

Further: the rector of a madrasa who, without taking a fixed salary, regarded only residing in the building as the recompense for his services — will he be sinful from the Shari‘a point of view or not? We hope the answer will be granted soon.

Answer

There is latitude in this, but the rector should perform his service to the madrasa for the sake of Allah (hisbatan lillah) and not regard this residence as the recompense for his services; rather, residence in the madrasa should be assigned for the service of the madrasa, out of the madrasa’s need, so that full supervision and protection are convenient at all times.
