A Madrasa Rector’s Salary without Prior Agreement
Question
The rector of a madrasa carries out the administration all year without a salary, and also does some private work of his own. But during the days when the work of collecting donations takes place, being occupied with it he cannot carry on his private business. Is it permissible for him to take a salary for those months or not?
Answer
In the case asked about, the rector should present this matter to the members of the consultative council: “Over the year I collect donations for, say, two months and do not do my private work, so let a salary be fixed for me for those two months. The remaining ten months I will serve the madrasa for the sake of Allah (hisbatan lillah) and will not take any compensation.
