What Should the System of Madrasas Be Like?

Question

What should the Shar‘i order and discipline of an Islamic madrasa be like? What should its constitution be like? Also, how much leave — with salary and without salary — should the imam of a mosque have?

Answer

The system (nizam) of the Dar al-‘Ulum has been printed; send for it and look at it. Apart from that, whatever arrangement the people in charge of the madrasa settle upon within the limits of the Shari‘a is valid. If an agreement is also made with the imam according to discretion and the interests involved (masalih), that is valid.
