A Prayer Mat from Shroud Cloth in the Mosque
Question
From the cloth that is bought for shrouding the dead, some people save a little cloth in the form of a prayer mat and give it to the mosque. May the people of the mosque use this prayer mat or not? That is, is it correct to use it as a prayer mat or not?
Answer
This cloth is not part of the shroud; it is the property of the heirs. This custom should be ended. If the heirs are adults and give something — a prayer mat or the like — to the mosque in order to convey reward to the deceased, then using it is correct.
