Abandoning a Particular Mosque for Fear for One’s Life

Question

A mosque that is dominated by the fasiqs (open sinners), in which no religious ruling against sin and debauchery can be announced, in which murderous attacks are made on worshippers on their way to perform prayer — while those people also take part in some disturbance — and in which three quarters of the Muslims of the village feel their honour to be in danger while performing prayer: is such a mosque fit to remain the jami‘ (congregational) mosque of the whole village?

Answer

Whoever faces danger to his life or honour in going to one mosque should go to another mosque and perform prayer there. As need and benefit (maslaha) require, the Friday prayer is valid in more than one mosque as well. Quarrels and strife should be avoided completely.
