Using Collection-Box Income for Building a Mosque

Question

A box (collection box) has been made for the income of the jamaʿat (community), and the muezzin or some other person carries it around to shops and houses; the amount collected consists of money put in by people of both groups — from our own community and from other communities. May this sum be used for building the mosque?
