Giving Money Obtained by Begging to the Mosque
Question
In a village near us, a muezzin collected in his surroundings, by begging, money, grain and the like under the headings of zakat, fitra, hides of sacrificial animals, memorial offerings of the fortieth and tenth day — gathering them as donations. For performing Hajj a total sum of seven hundred had been gathered.
Answer
He was not permitted to beg in this way; however, the money that had already become his property and that he gave to the mosque is valid for the mosque.
