Paying the Muezzin and Imam from the Donation Box at the Gate of a Shrine

Question

In the district of Kachhar, in the village of Qularqul, there is a shrine over a grave, which is in the well-known place of Langar Shah. Within this enclosure there is also a mosque. People coming and going put money into a box placed in front of the site; people of every community — Hindus, Muslims and others — put money in. What intention each has is not known. Is it valid to pay the salary of the muezzin and imam of the mosque from the money of this box or not?

Answer

What is apparent is that people put this money in for the upkeep and needs of the mosque and the shrine; so it is valid to spend this money on the needs of both. If an elementary religious school were established there, that would be more appropriate, so that the mosque too remains populated and the one buried in the shrine also continues to receive reward.
