Donations for a Mosque Pump: What to Do with the Unspent Remainder

Question

There is a well in this mosque on which an electric pump is installed. When the tap water is not sufficient, water is drawn from the well with the electric pump. These days there is a severe shortage of water and electricity, and restrictions have been placed on electricity consumption. When the mosque tank (hawd) was filled with the electric pump, every person (Muslim and non-Muslim) began filling from it and carrying the water away.

Answer

Let an announcement be made that so much money has remained: “If you permit, we will give it towards the teacher’s salary; if it is your opinion, arrangements will be made for a lamp” — and let it be spent wherever they give permission.
