Using Donations Collected for an Adhan Room on a Travellers’ Lodge
Question
Two men of our village have built an adhan room in the mosque; for this purpose they went to the outlying villages and collected money as donations. The officials and the members of the community council took this money into their possession and, without using it on the adhan room of the mosque — let alone on any other work of the mosque — spent it on repairing the travellers’ lodge and the like.
Answer
Since the donations were collected for building the adhan room, and the donors gave them saying so, it is not permissible for the members of the community council to spend them on any other work. Liability (daman) is wajib upon them.
