Building Rental Shops with Donations Collected for the Mosque Veranda

Question

My paternal uncle, Mawlana Manzur Ahmad Khan, who was also the mutawalli (trustee) of our neighbourhood mosque, felt the need for a veranda for the mosque: often in Ramadan, owing to the great number of worshippers, they would extend as far as the mosque courtyard, and in the rainy season and in winter this caused great difficulty, which was mostly relieved with a temporary awning.

Answer

The money must be spent on the very purpose for which the donations were collected and for which the donors gave them; there is no permission to spend it on another purpose. Therefore, a veranda alone should be built with this money, and spending it on shops or on any other work is not correct.
