Providing Iftar from Mosque Income
Question
In the Jamiʿ Masjid and the other associated mosques, in blessed Ramadan iftar is provided to the worshippers from this same income (from the shops attached to the mosque and the endowed houses). Is this permissible or impermissible?
Answer
If a shop is endowed as waqf for a particular mosque and the waqif (endower) has given permission for iftar, then it is permitted to spend its income on iftar in that same mosque; if the waqif has not given permission, it is not permissible. However, if the practice has continued uninterruptedly since the time of the waqif, it will also be permissible.
