Rewarding the Tarawih Hafiz from the Mosque’s Income
Question
On the occasion of the khatm (completion of the whole Qur’an) in Tarawih and of the shabina (the recitation of the whole Qur’an in one night), rewards are distributed to the huffaz from this same income, although in the writing of none of the endowers is there any indication of spending under these heads?
Answer
Giving money to those who recite the Qur’an in Tarawih is not correct. However, if he is also the permanent imam and he is given something in blessed Ramadan in addition to his basic salary, then it is permitted to give it from the endowments of this same mosque.
