Building a School Adjoining the Mosque
Question
Nowadays, owing to the acute need for Urdu education among Muslims, schools are being opened. Male and female teachers are appointed in them, but the male teachers are few and the female teachers more numerous. Considerable informality arises among them, the observance of hijab also disappears, and because of teaching, singing and playing music the veiling of the voice also disappears. Schools of this kind are generally adjoining a mosque, because the government does not give land for these schools.
Answer
Upholding Urdu is an important need of the time, but adherence to the rulings of the Shari‘a, in accordance with the divine texts, is permanent and eternal. Reverence for the prayer is always obligatory. The harms of abandoning hijab and of mixing with non-mahrams are clearer than the sun. There is no right to use a waqf contrary to the stipulation of the waqif.
