The Position of the Minbar and Its Form

Question

(1) In what place in a mosque should the place of the khatib, that is, the minbar, be set? (2) Just as the minbar is set in a particular place and on a particular side in the mosque of the students’ hostel (Dar al-Talaba) of Madrasa Mazahir al-‘Ulum and in the mosque of the Old Madrasa, is the minbar set in the same way in the Prophet’s Mosque in Madina and in the House of Allah (the Ka‘ba)? (3)

Answer

(1) When one’s back is towards the qibla (as it is during the khutba), the minbar should be to the left of the mihrab: [ar]قوله: المنبر بكسر الميم ان المنبر وهو الارتفاع، ومن السنة أن يخطب عليه اقتداءً بالنبي ﷺ «بحر»، وأن يكون على يسار المحراب «قهستاني» اهـ.[/ar] “His words: ‘al-minbar’ — with a kasra on the mim; the minbar (?) is elevation.
