Building Minarets, a Mihrab and Niches in a Mosque

Question

What is the ruling on making a niche in the mihrab inside a mosque for the purpose of women “filling the niche” (a custom of placing votive offerings in a niche)? What is the ruling on building a minaret, a mihrab and niches?

Answer

Women’s “filling the niche” is not among the needs of the mosque. As for a dome, a minaret or a mihrab, if there is a need for them, building them is correct according to the Shari‘a.
