Building a Mosque Without Necessity for Family Prestige
Question
Question: (1) A man who cares neither for the prayer itself nor for the congregation, and whose beard is not in accordance with the sunna but contrary to the Sharia, gave a small vacant plot of his land as waqf for the building of a mosque among the people of his family. Yet despite this, merely on account of his distinguished standing, he also submitted an application in his own name for building a separate mosque.
Answer
If a mosque is built for the pleasure of Allah Most High, there is a great reward in it; if it is built for some other purpose, it is not accepted. Likewise, building it in such a place that harm reaches the old mosque is prohibited. For a mosque that has a debt upon it, concern for paying it off takes precedence.
