Building another mosque to avoid strife: is it masjid dirar?
Question
In a certain mosque, owing to some dispute, disagreement arose among the worshippers, and two mosques came into being. The people of one mosque invited a like-minded innovator (bid‘a-holding) scholar and began corrupting minds. Among them are some peace-loving people of Deobandi persuasion who do not approve of this. Is there room for these peace-loving people to build a separate mosque of their own, and will it not be called masjid dirar (a mosque of harm)?
Answer
Quarrelling among members of the Umma is, in general, a very bad thing; but if the basis of the dispute is something of the kind described in the question, and separation is then chosen in order to put out the quarrel, there is no harm in it.
