Building a New Mosque in a New Settlement

Question

Question: There is a newly settled neighbourhood from which both of the old mosques of the village are at a distance of about one furlong each. The sound of the adhan is not always heard either, and in the neighbourhood those who pray in congregation are very few. For several such reasons it is intended to build a new mosque in the said neighbourhood. Is building the mosque permissible or not?

Answer

A mosque is an important need of the Muslims: wherever they settle, they will also see to a mosque, and they ought to do so. If there is a need in this newly settled neighbourhood, let a mosque be built there too, but concern and effort to keep it filled with worshippers are also necessary.
