Building a Second, Larger Mosque When One Already Exists
Question
Question: There is a mosque in a neighbourhood, and the worshippers are very few, but the people of the neighbourhood have decided to build another, larger mosque and have even laid its foundation. Now they will go about all over the world collecting donations. Is this course of action appropriate?
Answer
This course of action is contrary to reason. When that mosque is sufficient for the worshippers there, and they cannot fill even it completely, then going about collecting donations for another mosque is wrong; the Sharia does not permit it.
